Worth it? Deep Comfort

I love body moisturisers, specifically body butters. I swear I hoard them like an addict. And in keeping with the whole streamlining and simplifying things I decided to start trying to use some of them up.

Clinique Body Butter is the first body moisturiser I'd say I 'splurged' on, it's no where near as expensive as some higher end brands, but compared to my bog-standard Bodyshop Body Butters it's quite a step up at around £25! So I thought I'd share some of my thoughts on whether it was worth the extra.

It's got a light fragrance and a gorgeous creamy texture. It's not as heavy so other body butters I've used, and yet it definitely takes its time to sink in. I feel like it perfectly walks the line between begin an intensely rich moisturiser without leaving an film on your skin.

I have to say there is certainly a difference, but what surprised me most was the packaging. I know packaging shouldn't really matter as it's the product that counts… but when I'm paying this much for a moisturiser I expect some nice packaging, and the tub just felt cheap.

Overall there is definitely a difference in general texture and feel of the product itself. But just not enough to justify such a price difference for me. If you're wanting to treat yourself - go for it, but there are definitely better things you can splurge on to pamper yourself!

I just couldn't do this post without throwing in my buffing brush. There are all sorts of different types but the natural ones are much better than the plastic (apparently). I've had mine years and it's still going strong so I definitely recommend investing in a good one as they are little miracle workers!

This little abrasive brush, used every morning (or just whenever you remember if you're like me) honestly makes the biggest difference. My skin truly is noticeable smoother once I use it. And If I know I'm going to be showing some skin (e.g. before holiday or once the weather gets warmer) I always ensure it's in my routine. If you don't have one of these I highly recommend you run out and get one!

Misses

I've had a couple of bits and pieces that I've wanted to mention for a while, but none are worthy of their own post since all four just miss the mark. Since they all seem to fall into the same basket I thought I'd lump them together, as they're all fine, not terrible, and I'll probably persevere and use them up but I can't recommend them as they all have one or two big failings. 

Stila Smudge Pot in Kitten looks beautiful in the pot. I bought it after hearing endless exclamations over Stila's kitten eyeshadow and my love of cream shadows was reaching it's peak so I figured it must be a match made in heaven right? wrong

It's impossible to work with, I just can't get a decent overall colour when I apply it. You either get a very, very sheer glittery cast on the lids or you get a clumpy mess. I have to be so careful with this it's just not worth it, as even on those rare days I get it right the colour just isn't that pretty. I'm definitely going to be hunting down Stila Kitten eyeshadow when I'm in the States in July but I'd definitely stay away from the rest of Stila's smudge pots since this was such a disappointment

I only have NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk with in my New Zealand as however beautiful Yoghurt is I just can't figure out a use for it. These things crease like crazy on my lids, and they just don't stick for the waterline. So I'm left either using it very, very lightly on my lids to the point where there's no point, or under my lower lash line… I see other people using these all the time so I'm going to persevere with them a little longer to find some use of them.

Mac Honey Lust (middle swatch) is another mixed bag, when you apply it wet with a mixing medium it is a gorgeous eye shadow that provides super shimmery, metallic pigmentation with pretty glitters. However you apply it dry and it's a whole different story. It's sparse, the colour is none existent and worst of all, the glitter drops all over your face.

The reason I'm mentioning it here is that although when applied wet it's an amazing shadow, even then you have to be very careful to not apply too much. Despite it being gorgoues it's just a hassle, I find blending it out wet is a little bit of nightmare, but if I wait for it to dry then it goes terribly chunky and I get glitter all over my face. I just can't win and it's not something I'll be buying again despite how pretty it is when you get it right

The final miss is the Live Clean, Fresh Face Daily Moisturiser, which I got while I was in Brisbane, around 3 months ago and it's taken until now to firmly make my mind up. But I don't like it. It's thin formula feels lovely when you're applying it, especially if it's hot outside as it's very calming, however the problems arise when it dries. I've never had a moisturiser that make my skin feel so tight after applying it! I put it down to my skin being dehydrated for a while but I'm now confident it's this.

Its not a complete fail though, I imagine this could work very well for someone with oily skin or somewhere very humid. But for now it's being relegated to the back of my skin care. 

Good Things

I was sent these two products a few weeks ago from a relatively new company which you don’t hear that much about – Good Things. The basic idea is their products supply the same quality of skincare as other brands but without all the nasty ingredients. So it’s free from parabens, sulfates, mineral oils and animal ingredients which is great, it’s also meant to be full of natural ingredients to ‘boost’ your skin.

Face the Day moisturiser 100 ml -£7.99
This is my lleast favourite of the two purely because the scent is too much for me. It is lovely and hydrating though and works quite nicely under foundations and tinted moisturisers. It’s the sort of cream I’ll reach for during transitional months (so autumn and spring when my skin can’t make up its mind what to do!) and it does have UV filters which is a great added bonus

Bright Eyes Eyecream 15ml - £5.99
It’s a good standard eye cream which would work really well for someone who doesn’t really have any issues with their under eyes and is just looking for light soothing moisture, for me though I feel like I need more nourishment from my eye cream as my under eyes are my main hold up and need a fair bit of TLC
Both of these smell delicious and fruity however for me that’s a double edged sword. I don’t mind the strong scent in my eye cream as my eyes aren’t sensitive but I feel like that strong a scent is better suited to a body lotion over a face cream and I generally feel uncomfortable applying as surely something that strongly scented is the result of perfumes and added fragrance which doesn’t really appeal

Overall I doubt I’ll purchase these two again but not because I don’t like them, I do, I just don’t love them as they’re not quite right for me. I do think they’re worth the money though as they’d be perfect for someone who is just getting into skincare, who doesn’t want to spend too much and just wants something that isn’t too drying or too moisturising to introduce them into skin care

Trilogy?

I’ve been using these two products every single day for the past five weeks (any skincare products I review I always use for a minimum of 3 weeks constantly) and I’ve got to say I’m impressed :)
I’m going to review the two products separately but I do think a big part of why I’ve had such good results is because in conjunction they seem to work better than paired with other branded products.(I have started introducing other branded products recently and they do work well but I think together you get the best out of the products)

Trilogy energising face lotion
This is my favourite product out of the two, partly because the packaging reflects the price with a chic glass bottle and simple informative labels which reflect the natural image of Trilogy but also because despite of this not being the cheapest lotion it is amazing value!
I love how this feels on my skin, it really is lightweight and soothing while delivering just the right amount of hydration! I do prefer to use this in the mornings as although I can’t pinpoint why this is ‘energising’ I always feel my skin looks refreshed after use.

One pump and you get the perfect about for your whole face. I normally have to use double this amount of most of my moisturisers but I’ve found this to be the perfect amount to hydrate my skin even when it’s been dry because of harsh weather.

Trilogy balancing gel cleanser
I’m always a little wary of ‘gel’ cleansers as I’ve found in the past they can dry or irritate my skin but this one does exactly what it says – it balances out any dry or oily patches I have ready for the lotion.
This comes as a very pale light white gel and the amount on my hand it probably enough for two uses! As similar to the lotion you really only need a tiny bit of the product. This is the sort of face wash I can imagine coming back to time and time again as it’s a great staple cleanser that is gentle enough to use on a daily basis but still makes your skin feel clean!

I just want to mention, both products have the very distinctive Trilogy scent which at first I wasn’t overly keen on (It’s quite herbal and I’d say its relatively strong for facial skin care...) But since using these two products for the past several weeks the scent has really grown on me and unlike a lot of scented skin care the smell doesn’t linger on your skin- which is definitely good.
Trilogy products aren’t the easiest to get hold of however certain boots stores do stock them and you can buy online at boots but the easiest place to get hold of them iss on there own website which tells you quite a bit about the products themselves. Trilogy products also seem to be featured on numerous discounted websites as they are relatively high end– but then you get what you pay for with most skin care and their ingredients are great quality with all sorts of plant extracts such as, rosehip oil, cucumer, elderberry and comfrey!

Overall I’m definitely going to be repurchasing the energising face lotion – you get so much in a bottle and you only need to use a little bit though so it might be while until I have to get another one! And the balancing gel cleanser is the sort of product I’ll probably always go back to when my skin is playing up because this a really lovely staple cleanser that I don’t think you can go wrong with!

P.S Both of these are full of natural ingredients which are normally great for people with sensitive or irritable skin, since I have neither I let my mum try these 0ut as she has very sensitive skin. She actually liked them enough to go out and buy her own cleanser and lotion from Trilogy!
